Subtek event's featuring Boris:
Boris (Transmit Recordings)
Subtek: What inspired you to get into electronic music?
Boris: I was into dance music growing up in New York. NY was a pivot-able part of dance music because the clubs I went to were always playing dance music. I started going to clubs at the age of 15 and instantly fell in love with the music.
Subtek: When you aren't working on music, what else do you get in to? Do you have any interesting hobbies or activities that you are passionate about?
Boris: I’m really into sports. I love watching different types. Whether it’s Football, Baseball or Basketball. I love to go out to different type of restaurants and different food, I would say, I’m a bit of foodie.
Subtek: We're familiar with the idea of writer's block for writers who struggle to get their ideas on paper. For you, do you ever experience "beat block"? If so, what do you do to overcome lulls in creating your next track?
Boris: Not really, I have been doing it for 25 plus years. It just comes natural for me. It's really like riding a bike for me.
Subtek: Describe yourself in 3 words.
Boris: Thankful, Loyal and Appreciative.
Subtek: If you could bring back anyone from the past to share the music of today with for one day - who would you bring and why?
Boris: I would have to say Michael Jackson or Prince because they’re the artists I grew up loving and are no longer here.
Subtek: If you could collaborate with anyone on a big track - who would you pick and why?
Boris: I’m a fan of so many different producers and DJ’s. I would have to say, I would love to do a collaboration with Carl Cox considering I’m putting out my 2nd EP on his label.
Subtek: Give us a movie recommendation - something you think more people should watch if they haven't already.
Boris: So many amazing movies to choose from. Most recently, I would say the Tupac movie and Dunker were great.
Subtek: The bar just closed and you are absolutely starving. What's the plan?
Boris: I usually never eat after a gig or late night; but if I would, it would have to be pizza. Pizza always tastes great at any time.
Subtek: Do you have any announcements, shout outs or a message to the community you want to put out there?
Boris: Our next big NYC gig which will be New Year’s day Schimanski, as well planning for our MMW events, the GetWet Pool Party and our Transmit showcase, and of course, the gig at “ The Stage's Head” in NC. And lastly, the new releases I have coming on Intec, Toolroom, Yositoshi, and of course, Transmit Recordings.
Subtek: What’s one track that you listen to that will always put a smile on your face?
Boris: Chaka Khan “Ain't Nobody” always put a smile and makes for good memories.
